Firing in Burkina Faso

UAGADOUGOU: Heavy weapons fire was heard on Tuesday at the barracks of an elite army unit that staged a short-lived coup in Burkina Faso.

Dust was rising into the sky above the Naaba Koom II barracks in the capital Ouagadougou next to the presidential palace. Under a peace deal brokered last week, members of the elite unit are supposed to disarm.

But the presidential guard said they won’t accept disarmament under “shameful and violent” conditions.
