Israel sentences female Palestinian lawmaker to 15 months

JERUSALEM: The Israeli military says it has sentenced a female Palestinian lawmaker to 15 months in prison after convicting her of belonging to an illegal organisation and incitement.

The army says Khalida Jarrar was convicted on Sunday, eight months after she was arrested in a raid on her home.

It says Jarrar was sentenced for her membership in the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. It also said she has incited violence by calling for the kidnapping of Israeli soldiers.

Palestinians say Jarrar, who is in her early 50s, was prosecuted for political reasons and that she poses no threat to public safety.
