Kuala Lumpur, January 19:

A prominent Malaysian businessman allegedly shot to death two men and injured a third as they tried to kidnap him from his home near the capital today, a news report said.

Four men armed with knives and a fake pistol scaled the fence of the 51-year-old businessman’s house in the affluent district of Subang Jaya in Selangor state, not far from Kuala Lumpur, and tried to kidnap him, Bernama national news agency quoted Selangor Police Chief Yahaya Udin as saying. The businessman, whom police did not name, pretended to look for a change of clothes in a cupboard, but instead grabbed a pistol and fired at the intruders, Yahaya said.

Two other intruders escaped, including one who sustained a gunshot wound, Bernama quoted Yahaya as saying. An investigation was underway, Bernama said. It was not clear if the businessman, who was slashed on his forehead, will face any charges.
