Myanmar’s recently built administrative centre will officially become the nation’s capital under the long-awaited new constitution, official media reported today. General Thura Shwe Mann, the military regime’s third in command, said Nay Pyi Taw, or ‘Seat of the Kings’ which lies in the country’s central jungles, will take over from Yangon. “In accordance with the new constitution to be adopted, Nay Pyi Taw will become the nation’s capital,” he said in the New Light of Myanmar newspaper.
