A team of Sherpa climbers today headed for the high camps from the base camp to attempt to climb the world's second highest mountain in the winter season.
According to Nima Gyalzen Sherpa, expedition leader of the Taiwanese Winter K2 Expedition, the team comprises Tseng Ko-Erh, a woman climber from Taiwan, who wanted to be the first female to scale Mt K2 in the winter season.
"We have left the base camp for the summit push," Sherpa, who is also the managing director at Dolma Outdoor Expedition Pvt Ltd, shared. If weather favours, the team will create history by scaling K2 on February 14, he added.
The team comprises Tseng Ko-Erh, Nima Gyalzen Sherpa, Furu Sherpa, Chhiring Sherpa, Dawa Sherpa, Ngima Tendi Sherpa and Ningma Dorje Tamang. All climbers are in a good shape, according to Sherpa.
Tseng has already climbed Mt Kanchenjunga in the last spring season becoming the first Taiwani woman to scale the world's third highest peak. She had also climbed Mt Everest, Mt Lhotse, Mt Manaslu and Mt Dhaulagiri, according to Sherpa.
"Tseng wants to be the youngest woman to climb all 14 peaks above 8000 m," Sherpa, who has set multiple records in mountain climbing, said, adding that if successful, she will be the first woman climber to scale Mt K2 in the winter season.
