Bomber kills 15

KABUL: A suicide bomber wearing a burqa blew himself up in a crowded market in western Afghanistan on Thursday, killing 15 people and wounding 22 others. The bomber struck in Dilaram district of Farah province, said provincial official Younus Rasoul. Three policemen, including a district police chief, and 12 civilians were among the dead. —AP

Eleven shot in Assam

GUWAHATI: Suspected rebels have gunned down 11 people in two attacks in northeastern India. Assam state police official, DK Pathak, said the rebels allegedly stopped four cement company trucks and shot 10 employees in the vehicles before setting the trucks on fire. In a separate attack, Pathak said militants shot at a moving train, killing the conductor and injuring three in Guwahati. — AP

NEW DELHI: A tribal man and his four-year-old daughter were crushed by a bus in eastern India after being allegedly pushed out of the vehicle by staff for paying less than the fare, a report said on Thursday. Sanichar Toppo, 35, boarded the bus with his daughter in Orissa’s Talpatia village, but found he was two rupees short of the 10 rupees needed to buy tickets, the Press Trust of India news agency reported. — AFP
