Jammu, June 26:

Terrorists shot dead 12 civilians in Jammu and Kashmir, targeting villagers trained to fight militancy. The killings last night took place in Tialli Katha village near Surankote in Poonch district. Heavily armed gunmen came to the village and asked Muslim members of the village defence committee there to accompany them. "The gunmen then opened fire, killing 12 people, including 10 village defence committee members. A woman and a child are among the dead," an official said. He said 12 injured people were shifted to a hospital, and the condition of five was critical. No group has claimed responsibility, but police insist it was the work of separatist guerrillas.
