Utah guv China envoy

WASHINGTON: US President Barack Obama has selected Utah Governor Jon Huntsman to be the country’s next ambassador to China, The Washington Post reported Saturday. Citing unnamed sources, the newspaper said Huntsman, 48, had accepted the offer to head the US mission in Beijing, and that Lieutenant Governor Gary Herbert would replace him as governor. — AFP




Acid attack

HONG KONG: Two bottles of acid were thrown into a crowd on a popular downtown shopping district in Hong Kong on Saturday, injuring 30 people, according to police and news reports. Television footage showed firefighters washing off victims’ arms and legs before sending them to hospitals for treatment. Police Superintendent Leung Ka-ming said 30 people were hurt. — AP
