Tropical storm wreaks havoc in Hong Kong

Hong Kong, June 25:

Tropical storm Fengshen brought more heavy rain and strong winds to Hong Kong today, shutting down the city’s financial markets, schools and courts.

Fengshen, which battered the Philippines over the weekend, hit Hong Kong late yesterday and had moved about 68 miles northwest of the city as today evening, the Hong Kong Observatory said.

The storm was weakening as it headed over mainland China, it said.

The Hong Kong government closed all schools, courts and financial markets in the morning after a weather alert was issued late yesterday.

The storm injured at least 17 people and flooded 38 areas across Hong Kong, the government said.
