Kalmunai, February 2:

A couple denied custody of a baby who survived December’s tsunami disaster without a DNA test were arrested today after trying to snatch the child from hospital in Sri Lanka, police said.

“The medical superintendent of the hospital and a few other members have filed a complaint that the parents tried to grab the baby,” said police inspector Jameel Alm.

“It cannot be allowed because the court has ordered the baby be kept in the custody of the

hospital until the DNA tests are done,” he said. A magistrate in this eastern Sri Lankan town earlier today ordered DNA tests be carried out on the baby and on the couple to prove they are indeed his parents.
