Senior political figure of Myanmar Aung San Suu Kyi detained

KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 1

The United States has expressed grave concern regarding the reports of an apparent military coup in Myanmar and detention of senior leaders from the ruling National League for Democracy including Aung San Suu Kyi, on Monday morning.

Taking to the Twitter on Monday, US Secretary of States Anthony Blinken said, "The United States expresses grave concern regarding reports the Burmese military has detained multiple civilian government and civil society leaders."

US State Secretary Blinken also demanded that Myanmar immediately reverse these actions. in his social media post.

This will be the first foreign diplomatic crisis that the new US state appointee, under the Biden administration, will handle.

The Myanmar government and military have been in disagreement following the recent election results being labelled as fraudulent by the army.
