Chure conservation project chairman resigns over differences with minister

Kathmandu, November 26

Chairman of President Chure-Tarai Madhes Conservation Development Committee Rameshwor Khanal today tendered his resignation along with his team over differences with Minister for Forest and Soil Conservation Agni Sapkota.

According to the secretariat at the ministry, Minister for Forest and Soil Conservation Agni Sapkota had sought clarification from Khanal for planning an interaction on the draft of master-plan for Chure conservation with the members of the Parliament on December 1 without consulting him.

Khanal told the minister that he had informed the ministry’s secretariat about the program and that it was part of the committee’s annual plan, according to Sapkota’s Personal Assistant Yubaraj Dulal. Dulal said the minister told Khanal that he could not attend the function as Deputy Speaker had been invited as a chief guest of the programme.

“Khanal left the venue saying he would resign,” said Dulal. Khanal was not available for comments.

Bijay Singh Danuwar, Nagendra Yadav, Sunita Singh Thakuri and Furba Tamang are members of the Chure conservation project.

Member secretary of the project Annapurna Das said the seminar had been cancelled.Khanal and his team were appointed by Sushil Koirala-led government.
