Durbarmarg gang rape case main accused arrested

KATHMANDU: The main accused of Durbarmarg gang rape case, Shailesh Karki, was arrested by the police on Tuesday.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Mohan Thapa, Karki was arrested on Tuesday.

The 22-year old perpetrator was nabbed after almost a two month long chase. Police are still looking for the three other accused - Bikas Gautam, Deepak Shrestha, Rabi Paudel.

The four have been accused of gang raping a woman at the Landmark Hotel in Durbarmarg on January 25.

Officers at the Durbarmarg Metropolitan Police Circle had mediated an agreement of sorts between the victim and the accused to 'settle' the case, upon reactions on which, the police headquarters had suspended Inspector Laxman Thakuri and Sub Inspector Chandra Bhandari of the Circle.

DSP Tilak Bharati was also removed as the chief of the circle.

Apparently, the victim was offered money to dismiss the case.
