Former lawmakers’ role vital in development, says prime minister

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli today said the role former lawmakers would be crucial in the country’s effort to achieve the goals of development and prosperity.

He said the experience of former lawmakers world be key in achieving the aspiration for ‘Happy Nepalis, Prosperous Nepal’.

“Former lawmakers are actually advisers to the Parliament and the government. They can make crucial recommendations on the basis of their experience while in the Parliament or in the government,” said Prime Minister Oli during his meeting with representatives of the Lawmakers Forum at his official residence in Baluwatar.

PM Oli also underscored the need for strengthening national unity given the fact that various elements were trying to exploit Nepal’s social diversity. Referring to the wars in Syria and Rwanda, the prime minister said warmongers were active everywhere.

“These elements come is various guises. Even in Nepal, there have been attempts to stage ethnic, religious and linguistic wars. But Nepali people have rejected such attempts outright,” he said.

The prime minister also said that whatever change Nepal had witnessed over the years the general public should sense the benefits. “This government’s responsibility is to make sure the grass-roots level enjoys the benefits of democracy,” he said.
