Govt to mark Republic Day on May 29

Kathmandu, May 22

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal today said the government is celebrating national Republic Day on May 29 by organising various programmes with people’s participation.

Addressing a meeting of the Republic Day Celebration Main Committee held at the Home Ministry, Singha Durbar today, the prime minister pledged to celebrate the day among the people instead of making the celebration just a formality.

“The Republic Day of Nepal is a moment that marks the change of an era in the country’s history,” he said, adding that the government was committed to making all the people feel that it was their day.

In his reaction to the first-phase local election’s results that continues to come in, the prime minister and the Chairperson of CPN-Maoist Centre said, “The country had a victory with the successful completion of the first phase of the local level election. The election concluding in a free, peaceful, and impartial manner. It is not about who won or lost in the election, is the victory of the country. It is a great matter that the election was held in an absolutely peaceful and impartial atmosphere.”
