Oli demands all poll dates pronto as UML politburo meet begins

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli on Wednesday demanded that the government should announce dates for local, provincial and federal elections at the earliest.

Presenting a 10-page political report at the party's politburo meeting today, Oli said dates for elections at all three tiers, constitutionally required to be held by January next year, should be announced as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, the former Prime Minister also urged the government to prepare legal and political bases to hold the elections on time.

The politburo would begin discussions on Oli's document tomorrow, according to party Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai.

Meanwhile, Bhattarai briefed the meeting about preparations made to let the party's student wing secure maximum seats in Free Student Union elections to be held by the Tribhuvan University on February 25.

Another Secretary Pradeep Gyawali, in the meeting, informed the leaders about preparations made to launch the Mechi-Mahakali Campaign from March 4.

The meeting shall resume at the party headquarters at 12 pm, according to Bhattarai.
