Rato Machhindranath chariot procession postponed again

LALITPUR: The chariot procession of Rato Machhindranath, stalled for a long time, has again been postponed for a month.

The chariot procession had to be stopped for three months as a result of the April 25 earthquake and occurrence of an additional month in the lunar calendrar which is considered impure for special religious activities (Malamas).

Furthermore, the procession is being postponed again as the Venus planet will remain set (Shukra Asta) from August 1, according to Chief of Guthi Sansthan, Rudranath Adhikari.

The chariot procession of Rato Machhindranath had begun on April 22, three days before the devastating earthquake struck the country. The chariot is presently stationed at Chyasikot of Lalitpur.
