DPM Bimalendra Nidhi meets India PM Narendra Modi

KATHMANDU: Nepal's Deputy Prime Minister Bimalendra Nidhi on Saturday called on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.

Nidhi, one of the influential leaders of Nepali Congress and second man of the incumbent Pushpa Kamal Dahal-led government, is currently in New Delhi the special envoy of PM Dahal.

During the meeting, Nidhi told Modi that implementation of the Constitution accommodating aspirations of all people would be the top priority of government, the New Delhi-based Embassy of Nepal informed in a statement after the meeting.

The Deputy Prime Minister also shared his expectation that India would continue supporting Nepal in the latter's socio-economic development projects. In response, Modi said India would be ready to support Nepal on the basis of the priorities identified by the Nepal government, the statement added.

"The Prime Minister of India also stated that the Government of India looks forward to the forthcoming visit of the Prime Minister of Nepal to India as well as early realisation of the exchange of visits at the Presidents' level."

Earlier, on Friday, he had called on Indian President Pranab Mukherjee and handed a Nepal visit invitation for him sent by Nepal President Bidya Devi Bhandari.

He had left Kathmandu for the Indian Capital on Thursday.

Earlier, the Cabinet on August 11 had decided to send two DPMs —Nidhi to India and Krishna Bahadur Mahara to China as the Nepali Prime Minister’s emissaries to the neighbouring countries to convey message about the new government’s priorities.

Mahara flew to Beijing on August 15 for the special mission.

Mahara met Chinese premier, Li Keqiang, on August 17, among other top officials.
