Bomb explodes in Gorkha campus

Gorkha/ Lamjung, February 27

At a time when Tribhuvan University affiliated campuses are busy with the upcoming student union elections, a bomb exploded at Drabya Shah Multiple Campus in Gorkha Municipality today morning. However, no casualty was reported.

District Police Office Gorkha informed that the explosive went off on the premises of Drabya Shah Multiple Campus at around 11:00am. According to eye witnesses, a youth fled the scene after detonating the explosive. Police have surmised it was a sutali bomb.

A large number of security personnel have been deployed in the area after the explosion.

The NC aligned Nepal Student’s union and the student wing of the CPN-MC clashed over the registration of candidates. After the row, the CPN-MC aligned student union padlocked the office.

Students loyal to Nepali Congress, CPN-UML-aligned All Nepal National Free Student’s Union and Naya Shakti-Nepal-affiliated unions have expressed discontent over the padlock.

Chief District Officer Mohan Bahadur GC said that a  large number of security personnel were deployed at the campus in order  to avert any untoward incident.

In another incident, at least eight  persons, including a policeman, sustained injuries in a clash that  erupted between students loyal to the CPN-UML and Nepali Congress at Sundar Bazaar-based Institute of Agriculture and Animals Science in Lamjung today.

Sub-inspector Hom Nath Adhikari and seven others sustained injuries in the clash .

SI Adhikari received a deep cut on his head while campus Chief Lal Prasad Amgain, Account Officer Ramji Khadka and four Nepal Student’s Union activists sustained minor injuries in the clash. All the injured are receiving treatment at local health facilities.
