FSF-N not to observe Black Day

Kathmandu, September 17

The Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal issued a press release today telling its rank and file not to observe black day to oppose the constitution.

The FSF-N and the Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal had observed black day on Constitution Day in the past to oppose the promulgation of the constitution in 2015 amid street protests in the Madhes. Some protesters were killed in police firing in 2015 and 2016.

The government is celebrating promulgation of the constitution on Wednesday.

“The FSF-N wants to tell its rank and file that the government has already agreed to amend the constitution, and therefore, the party has decided not to take part in any programme aimed at observing black day. The party also wants to tell its rank and file not to be misled by others regarding this decision,” the party said, adding that its disagreements and opposition remained intact.

The Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal also said that the FSF-N had forged an agreement with the ruling coalition partners on removing the shortcomings seen in the constitution through amendments so as to protect the gains made thus far and achieve more rights gradually.

The release was signed by the party’s Deputy General Secretary Prakash Adhikari.
