Flood alert for east and central regions issued

Kathmandu, July 10

The Flood Forecasting Section at the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology today issued flood alert for the eastern and central regions of the country.

According to the section, eastern Tarai, particularly from Saptari to Bara district that lie within the Chure-based river system comprising Triyuga, Khando, Ratu and Gagan rivers is at high risk of flood in the next 24 hours.

Similarly, from the Narayani river system to Mahakali river systems, especially the Chure range based rivers along Binaya Khola, Arun Khola, Tinau Khola, Banganga, Jhainjhari, Prabasotanala, Dunduwa are at high risk of flood tilt 6:00pm tomorrow evening.

The DHM has suggested that the local people of Taraistay on high alert to save themselves from flooding till tomorrow.

Along with the flood alert in Tarai areas, DHM has also advised to avoid travel through landslide prone areas in the hilly region till tomorrow. The department has given the toll free number 1155 for inquiry regarding flood and landslide related information.

Besides the high risk areas, the department has said there is normal risk of flood in the Mahabharat region-based river system comprising the Kamala and Bagmati rivers from Bara to Saptari. Whereas the risk of flood by tomorrow has been predicted as low in areas lying along the Saptakoshi River.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Forecasting Division has predicted generally cloudy weather throughout the country for tomorrow.

Similarly, light to moderate rain has been predicted in many places in the country, while there are chances of heavy rainfall in one or two places.

Yesterday, Meteorological Forecasting Division recorded 36.7 mm rainfall in Dipayal, 93 mm in Dadeldhura, 45.4 mm in Dhangadi, 48.8 mm in Birendranagar, 21.6 mm in Nepalgunj, 24.5 mm in Jumla, 29.4 mm in Dang, 150.5 mm in Pokhara, 57.8 mm in Bhairahawa, 21 mm in Simara, 17 mm in Kathmandu, 0.5 mm in Okhaldhunga, 13.3 mm in Taplejung, 0.3 mm in Dhankuta, 65 mm in Biratnagar, 1.4 mm in Jomsom, 5 mm in Dharan, 100.7 mm in Lumle  and 4.8 mm in Jankapur.
