Govt allocates Rs 288.8m for school reconstruction

The government has allocated Rs 288.8 million for the reconstruction of 198 community school buildings that were destroyed in the April 25 earthquake in Tanahun.

Assistant District Education Officer Baburam Devkota of District Education Office, Tanahun, informed that the budget was approved for School Building Reconstruction and Physical Service Promotion programme. Devkota informed that all the schools destroyed in the earthquake would be reconstructed.

Sub-engineer Shambhu Poudel of DEO said each of the schools damaged in the earthquake can submit an application for the reconstruction before September 15. He added that budget would be allocated to each school on the basis of damage.

District Education Officer Bishnu Prasad Adhikari said the reconstruction would be begin soon as the budget has already been approved. “We have to send the applications to the concerned department by Mid-September,” he informed. He said his office had sent a circular to the local schools regarding the same.

Sources at DEO said the allocated budget would be spent for the reconstruction of four schools, toilets for girls in 16 schools and repair of 142 schools that have suffered minor damage and 56 with major damage. The budget was allocated after a damage assessment of more than 200 schools in the district.
