One too many investigation panels

Dhangadi, September 18

After assigning many investigation teams, some of which are working concurrently, police are yet to crack the murder mystery of Nirmala Panta of Bhimdatta Municipality, Kanchanpur.

District Police Office of Kanchanpur had first formed a committee headed by Inspector Ekindra Khadka with a mandate to investigate the murder of the teenage girl. Similarly, the Central Investigation Bureau too had assigned a separate team led by DSP Angur GC to look into the case.

Later, after both he probe teams came under controversy, the district police office then commissioned another team to launch an inquest into the murder. The CIB too has assigned a new team led by SSP Thakur Gyawali to carry out the same investigation.

Again, while just this Sunday, Nepal Police separately commissioned a high-level investigation team led by DIG Dhiru Basnyat to investigate the case, more recently, an exclusively women police team led by SP Durga Singh was also commissioned to investigate the murder.

Despite all these teams and investigations, a    breakthrough in the investigation still appears to be a remote possibility.

According to Kanchanpur DPO DSP Krishnaraj Ojha, there are many other teams other than the officially declared ones in Kanchanpur of late that are investigating the murder. “There are a few teams about which even the DPO is unaware of,” according to DSP Ojha.

Meanwhile, a demonstration was held in the district today as well seeking action against the murderer(s).

Hundreds of locals participated in the demonstration, which was staged under the leadership of Nepal Students Union. The demonstrators chanted slogans against the government and demanded that the murderer be booked at the earliest.
