Police open fire in Tikapur

DHANGADHI: As protesters demanding a Tharuhat province breached the prohibitory order, police opened fire in Tikapur of Kailali district.

Though details of the incident are awaited, it is estimated that scores were injured.

Earlier, at least 22 police were injured while dispersing the mob.

Chief District Officer Raj Kumar Shrestha said the protesters brandished khukuris, swords and catapults and attacked police personnel.

Tharus from rural areas of Banke, Bardiya and Kailali district have come to Tikapur for demonstration.
