Report on Parliamentary regulations discussed

Kathmandu, March 17

The Parliamentary Regulations Committee today started discussions on the report submitted by PRC Sub-committee Chair Ram Narayan Bidari on Parliamentary regulations.

According to PRC Chair Radheshyam Adhikari, a Nepali Congress lawmaker, today’s panel discussed the first 10 chapters of the report and the next meeting tomorrow will discuss the next 10 chapters of the report.

Adhikari said some fringe parties’ representatives in the PRC demanded 75 members in the Parliamentary Hearing Committee.

UCPN-Maoist lawmaker Bidari, who prepared the report, said the NC was delaying enactment of Parliamentary regulations and formation of the Parliamentary Hearing Committee and that is why PRC Chair Adhikari was holding clause-wise discussions.

“The panel should have only discussed contentious issues, but the panel chair is holding discussion on each clause.

If the discussion goes on like this, it will take months to pass the Parliamentary Regulations,” he added.

The ruling parties want only 15 members in the PHC as stipulated in the constitution, but the NC wants 73 to 75 members in the body.
