Slow progress in Chameliya Hydropower Project

BHIMDUTTANAGAR: The delayed construction work of the Chameliya Hydropower Project has added uncertainty to the completion period of the project.

The ongoing construction job of the project of 30 megawatt situated at Balach in Shikhar VDC-4 of Darchula district has been halted for long.

The officials said that the total cost of the Project is estimated to be Rs 15.6 billion though the project was targeted to complete with the investments of Rs 8.5 billion in the initial phase.

As per the fresh schedule, a joint working committee, consisting representatives of civil and electro mechanical contractors, Nepal Electricity Authority and consultant companies, has targeted to complete the construction work by March 2016. Earlier, the agreement was signed to complete the project by 2011 after beginning the construction works in 2007.

The project is to generate 180 million units of electricity annually and the residents of the farwest are expected to be benefitted from the project.
