Talks with Madhes-based parties to be given priority

KATHMANDU: Thursday’s Cabinet meeting was focused on how to make the talks with agitating Madhes-based parties decisive, according to Minister Rai. “Nepal government had made special request to Indian government to end the undeclared blockade on the Nepal-India border points and ease the supply of goods. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Kamal Thapa on Thursday briefed about his talks with his Indian counterpart during his recent India visit. The talks were very positive,” he said. The government will give topmost priority to holding decisive talks with the agitating parties, said Rai. The government is prepared to move ahead with the constitution amendment bill on two issues — proportional representation and delimitation of constituencies on the basis of population — which was registered by the previous Nepali Congress-led government, immediately after holding consultations with the agitating UDMF, according to Cabinet sources.
