Three officials held for bribery

Birgunj, September 20

A team from the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority today arrested the chief of Education Development and Coordination Unit along with the section officer and one other person from Birgunj Metropolis red-handed with bribe money in Bara.

The arrested have been identified as Chief Manjur Alam, section officer Sashibhusan Sah and officer Sah’s nephew Arun Kumar Sah.

Acting on a tip-off, the team deployed from CIAA’s Hetuada office arrested the trio with the bribe money while they were taking the amount from service seekers. They were held with one lakh rupees from the chamber of Mayor Bijaya Sarabagi today.

The CIAA team said Chief Alam and officer Sah had taken the amount through Arun Kumar for issuing an approval letter up to grade V for Purkan International Academy.

Meanwhile, operator of the academy Ekwal Haidar said they had demanded Rs five lakh for the approval letter, but they settled for one lakh later.

He said he had been trying hard to receive the permission letter for the past six months without success. “I not only offered the amount but immediately informed the CIAA,” he added.

The trio has been sent to CIAA Hetauda Office for investigation.
