BIRGUNJ: Police in Bara district arrested Tarai Madhes Democratic Party (TMDP) General Secretary Jitendra Sonal for his alleged involvement in an arson during the ongoing protests in the Tarai region.

TMDP leader Sonal and his party’s Bara district chairman Nawal Kishor Singh were accused of vandalising and setting parked vehicles on fire.

Earlier, some vehicles parked on the premises of Saurabh Enterprises were set ablaze in Lipanimal-9 of Bara district today.

Police Inspector Purushottam Khadka said they were arrested for vandalising and torching the trucks after organising a motorbike rally in the riot-hit zone.

The duo were held from Nitanpur of Bara.

Area Police Post, Simara, is looking into the case keeping the leader duo at its custody, Khadka said.
