'UML had consented to register Constitution amendment'

ITAHARI: Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba claimed the incumbent government registered the Constitution amendment bill after the main opposition CPN-UML had consented for the same.

Speaking at a function in Itahari of Sunsari today, Deuba said the opposition had agreed to amend the Constitution after Madhesi and ethnic communities reiterated their demands for the amendment.

Deuba said amending the Constitution was compulsory as recent differences over the national charter should be resolved.

Meanwhile, the former Prime Minister said all major political parties should come together to ensure timely elections at local, provincial and federal levels.

Party leaders Farmullah Mansur, Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, Min Kumar Bishwakarma, Sitaram Mehata and Revati Raman Bhandari among others had also spoken at the function.
