Yadav, Bhattarai suggest provincial, federal elections before local polls

KATHMANDU: Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal Chairman Upendra Yadav and Naya Shakti Nepal Coordinator Baburam Bhattarai have requested the government to hold provincial and federal elections before the local level elections.

Issuing a joint statement, they argued that provincial and federal elections would help in the smooth implementation of the Constitution.

The two discontentment parties joined hands to protest the government's plan to hold local level elections just two days after the date was announced for the same.

Both the leaders were of the view that the issues of discontentment in the Constitution should be addressed at the earliest so that the Constitution would be accepted by all.

They also suggested that the incumbent government postpone the local level elections and focus on passing the Constitution amendment bill from the Parliament.

Yadav and Bhattarai also underlined the need of adopting a directly elected executive system in order to end the political instability going on in the country for a very long time.

The power sharing of the positions in state bodies and those of education, health, security bodies and diplomatic sectors on the basis of the strength of the parties must be stopped, the leaders added.

They also stated that the ongoing protest being staged by the United Democratic Madhesi Front was necessary and have also expressed that they would join the UDMF in their protest.

It is apparent that Bhattarai and Yadav have been seeking further opportunities to strengthen their cooperation on the agendas of constitutional reforms.

Earlier on November 28, 2016 the leaders had issued a joint statement demanding more amendments to the Constitution.
