Kathmandu, December 16

Chitwan Tigers brought in three Indian cricketers for the TVS Everest Premier League, a premier Twenty20 cricket tournament, to be held at the Tribhuvan University Stadium from Monday.

Tigers unveiled their final squad that included all-rounder  Praveen Gupta, Parmesh Kumar and Shaweg Khan as their foreign players.

Gupta, who played in India’s reputed domestic cricket tournament  Ranji Trophy for Uttar Pradesh from 2004 to 2015, also featured in the  ICC U-19 World Cup for India in 2004.

Left handed batsman and slow left-arm orthodox bowler Gupta also has the experience of playing County cricket in England.

Similarly,  Hariyana’s Kumar played U-19 Vijay Merchant Trophy for Hariyana and  other age group tournaments. He was also in the camp of Kings XI Punjab  for the Indian Premier League in 2016-17 season.

Likewise, middle  order batsman Khan, who hails from Delhi, was the member of the team  that won Vijay Trophy in 2013. Khan was also in the Mumbai Indians camp in 2012.

Meanwhile, team owner Kishor Bhattarai,  who denied unveiling the amount paid to them, said his team was fully  prepared for the competition. “This is the first season and we have  to struggle a little bit to get everything done for the event. Our main target is to promote cricket in the country,” said  Bhattarai.

Bhattarai also said that team skipper Prithu Baskota, who is currently in police custody, will be available for the competition. “As he is innocent and he was not involved in any kind of offense, we  are sure that Baskota will be released tomorrow. He is our skipper and unless he is proved guilty we will not change that,” he added.

Baskota, the national team member and one of the shareholders of Deja Vu, was arrested on Thursday after a brawl in the night club.

Meanwhile, Tigers’ coach Kalam Ali said his side had a good preparation for the competition. “We  have been preparing for the last 10 days and we got a full squad from  today. We are well prepared and are ready for the challenge,” said Ali.

A total of six city-based teams — Kathmandu  Kings-XI, Lalitpur Patriots, Biratnagar Warriors, Bhairahawa Gladiators,  Pokhara Rhinos and Chitwan Tigers — will take part in the event  organised by EPL Pvt Ltd under the sponsorship of Jagadamba Motors Pvt  Ltd.

The winners will take home Rs 2.1 million.
