Nepal begin SAFF U-16 with stunning victory

KATHMANDU: Nepal registered a stunning 5-0 victory over the Maldives in their first match of the SAFF U-16 Championship at Sylhet Stadium of Bangladesh on Monday.

Nepal received three points from the game.

In the very third minute of the match, Laxman Pariyar had scored the first goal for Nepal. Prizen Tamang and Suman Aryal had added two goals each later.

After the match, Nepal coach Upendra Man Singh said he was surprised to the see score.

“We thought it would be a tight game with 1 or 2 goals," Singh said, "But, we came here for a win and achieved it. I want to congratulate all fans and players."

Nepal will lock horns with Afghanistan on Friday. "Afghanistan is very strong team and we are well aware of that,” the coach said.
