Nepal to face Maldives in SAG football semifinal

KATHMANDU: Nepal ended their group-stage journey as runners-up of Group B in the 12th South Asian Games football tournament after losing to Bangladesh 2-1 on Thursday.

Nepal will face the Group A winners, the Maldives, in the semifinal match on February 13. In the other semifinal, Bangladesh will lock horns with India.

Nepal had made an early lead with Ananta Tamang's goal in the second minute of the match. Two goals by Bangladeshis, in last six minutes of the first half, however, shattered dreams of Nepali players to become the group leaders.

Earlier, Nepal had defeated Bhutan 5-0 in their first match.

Bangladesh and Bhutan, however, had player 1-1 draw.

There were only three teams in the team.
