KATHMANDU, APRIL 12

Nepal on Monday reported 496 new cases of coronavirus infection from across the country. With this, the total nationwide infection count has advanced to 280,524.

The last time Nepal saw over 450 cases in a single day was back in January 11 when 488 cases were reported. Likewise, over 400 cases were last recorded on January 14, with 403 cases.

​A total of 63 antigen positive cases were detected through tests carried out across the country in the past 24 hours.

Of the total cases recorded today, Kathmandu district holds the highest number of new infections with 159 cases logged in the past 24 hours. Lalitpur reported 44 cases, whereas eight new cases were reported from Bhaktapur.

Likewise, 138 people who were earlier infected with the virus are reported to have recovered in the past 24 hours as per the latest data provided by health ministry.

As of today, 274,165 individuals have recovered from the novel coronavirus infection. The recovery rate, as such, is 97.7 per cent.

Nepal's active Covid-19 case count currently stands at 3,306.

The nationwide death-toll has reached 3,053 with 13 Covid-related fatalities reported today.

According to the health ministry, 5,105 total tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, of which 4,378 were PCR tests while 727 were antigen tests. With this, a total of 2,317,284 PCR tests have been carried out in Nepal till date.

Currently, there are 85 individuals in various quarantine facilities across Nepal.

On Sunday, Nepal's coronavirus case count reached 280,028 with 303 newly confirmed cases.

Globally, over 136 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus while 2.9 million people have lost their lives to Covid-19.

Likewise, over 109 million people have recovered from the disease while more than 23 million cases are still active.
