SIRAHA, OCTOBER 31

Janata Samajbadi Party-Nepal's Federal Council Chairman Baburam Bhattarai today said that amendment to the constitution was inevitable to manage the federal republic in the country.

Addressing the party's programme at Golbazaar, Siraha, Bhattarai, who is also the former prime minister, stressed the need to amend the constitution to incorporate voices and aspirations of people from all creeds, communities, regions and classes.

'In a democracy, people from all creeds, castes, languages and religions should have proportional access to state power. Amendment of the statute is a must to change the status quo where only privileged people are enjoying state facilities,' Bhattarai added.

Bhattarai pledged to work to provide equal and proportional access and opportunities to people from mountain, hill and the Tarai to the state organs. 'Institutionalising the federal republic through constitution amendment is the goal of our party,'

Bhattarai stressed. He slammed CPN-UML, CPN-Maoist Centre and Nepali Congress saying that they had become useless in Nepal.

He accused the old parties of getting involved in corruption.

'Our party will try to eradicate corruption,' he promised.

Bhattarai directed the party rank and file to prepare for the next general polls. 'I want party cadres to expand the party organisation to win a lot of seats in the local, provincial and federal polls,' he added.
