Five arrested for 'resolving' rape case outside of court in Kailali

Five people, including the accused, have been detained in the Kailali district for attempting to settle the rape case outside of court. Others who were involved in the incident have gone missing after the incident.
Police arrested former ward secretary Yagya Raj Acharya (53), ward member Laxmi Neupane (54), local teacher Hom Prasad Subedi (53), Raju Bhattrai (34) and the rape accused Prakash Subedi (30) from Janakpur of Ghodaghodi Municipality-4 in the district, informed Area Police Office, Sukhad.
It has been learnt that Prakash had dragged a 77-year-old woman from the local Chaudhary community to the field and raped her on December 1.
After the assault, the group of individuals used the money to 'settle the matter' outside of court.
The group allegedly promised the victim Rs 300,000 in exchange for her silence, but the issue surfaced after a month when the perpetrator refused to pay more than Rs 100,000.
Police detained the accused and four other meditators the same day after a First Complaint Report of sexual assault was filed at Sukhad Area Police Office, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police Bedprakash Joshi, Spokesperson at the District Police Office, Kailali.
The Kailali District Court has sent the arrested to judicial custody for further investigation.
