Keshar Bahadur Bhandari's 'National Security' launched

KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 29

Nepalaya, a book publication, house, today released Brigadier General (Retd) Keshar Bahadur Bhandari's 'National Security and the State: A Focus on Nepal' amid a special event in Kathmandu.

In a statement, Nepalaya said, 'The book aims to inform readers on the security sensitivities of Nepal and the state of preparedness towards it.'

On the occasion, Chancellor of Gandaki University, Prof. Dr. Ganesh Gurung highlighted the merits of the book in relevance to the current problems plaguing government institutions. Gurung, also an academic supervisor to the author said he was delighted to know that the book had finally taken a shape.

During the event, media person Bhusan Dahal interacted with the author on Nepal's contemporary security issues.

Replying to Dahal's questions on sensitive position of Nepal in the current geopolitics, the author said, 'There exists a distinct demarcation between security policies for state-nations and nation-state. Only if we properly navigate both internal and international geopolitical challenges, we hope to protect our national integrity, especially as a buffer between India-China.'

Furthermore, author, who is Defense and Security Analyst, also highlighted the lack of enthusiasm of government bodies on the need of a comprehensive national security policy. He also served as Military Advisor at the UN Mission in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

During the launch event, Lieutenant General (retd.) Balananda Sharma congratulated the author and publication Nepalaya for publishing the book.

He also said the book is an excellent resource material for readers across the sections of the society; particularly to politicians, government officials, media and scholars of security and international relations.

A dedicated chapter in book also dwells on the Nepal Army encompassing the Army's role, characteristics, organization and several other aspects to help the readers to be informed on the relevance of the army as in institution, reads the statement.

The book is priced at Rs995 for Nepalese market and is available at all the leading bookstores across the country.
