KATHMANDU, JANUARY 30

Vincent Sablich and Tamsin Hunt have won the second edition of Tenzing Norgay Sherpa Open Climbing Competition held at Crimpanzee Adventure Hub, Bouddha.

The second edition of the Tenzing Norgay Sherpa Open Climbing Competition, which started yesterday, has concluded today with semi-final and final rounds, according to event coordinator Serap Jangbu Sherpa.

Today's event was held at the Crimpanzee Adventure Hub in Boudha. While the inauguration event was organised at Jagdol yesterday.

In the men's category, Vincent Sablich secured first place, followed by Dipan Gurung in second and Paul Schmidt in third. Tshering Gyaljen Sherpa in fourth place, while Sajan Lama placed fifth. In the women's category, Tamsin Hunt first place, with Mingma Yangji Sherpa and Fura Diki Sherpa finishing second and third, respectively. Santoshi Magar fourth place, while Dipa Lamichhane fifth.

The top three winners in both categories received cash prizes: NPR 45,000 for first place, NPR 30,000 for second place, and NPR 15,000 for third place. Additionally, the fourth- and fifth-place winners received gift hampers. Gift hampers were also awarded to the youngest and oldest participants in both the male and female categories, according to Tulsingh Gurung, event co-organiser.

Member Secretary of the National Sports Council Nepal, Tanka Lal Ghising, distributed certificates and cash prizes to the winners. The competition was jointly organized by the US-Nepal Climbers Association Inc and the Nepal National Mountain Guide Association (NNMGA).

Heli Everest was the title sponsor and Seven Summit Treks was the gold sponsor of the event.

Nepal National Mountain Guide Association President Tulsingh Gurung said that the event was organised in celebration of climbing culture, camaraderie, and the enduring spirit of legendary climber Tenzing Norgay Sherpa.

The competition was organised to promote the sport of climbing, offering a platform for climbers of all levels to showcase their skills and passion for ascending to new heights, USNCA founding president Serap Jangbu Sherpa, who is also the coordinator of the event, informed.

'The competition also aimed at uniting climbers from diverse backgrounds, encouraging a vibrant and supportive community bound by a shared love for the ascent,' USNCA Outgoing President Passang Nima Sherpa informed.

President-elect of USNCA Jangbu Sherpa said the USNCA aimed to introduce additional categories such as lead climbing, speed climbing and bouldering, expanding the competition's scope and providing more opportunities for climbers to showcase their skills across different disciplines.
