An autobiography of world record holder and mountaineer Lakpa Dendi Sherpa has been officially released amidst a programme organised at the Everest Base Camp.

The book 'Himalayan Maverick' was jointly launched by world record holder and mountain guide Kami Rita Sherpa, and Binod Kulung, president of Books Writing Nepal Pvt Ltd.

The autobiography tells the story of Lakpa Dendi, who successfully scaled the highest peak of the world thrice in a matter of 10 days 18 hours and 30 minutes from base camp to summit on May 13, 18 and 24 in 2018.

Lakpa Dendi was also able to claim a spot in the world book of records for the second time after successfully climbing Mount Everest and Mt K2 within 59 days.

On the occasion, Kami Rita expressed his happiness at the book's launch and said, 'There are countless stories on the mountains, and it is a great pleasure to write those stories in the form of a book. It is my good fortune to see individuals from the Sherpa community advancing in intellectual fields in addition to mountain climbing.'

He further expressed hope that such books based on the experiences of mountaineers will make it easier for new climbers entering the world of mountaineering.

Similarly, Lakpa Dendi expressed his joy over the launch of his book in the presence of mountaineering legend Kami Rita.

Hailing from Mamerkhu, a small Sherpa village in the south-eastern part of Solukhumbu district, in a farming environment, to working as a porter in the trekking sector followed by thousands of ups and downs, 'life has started to feel like a garden full of uniquely coloured flowers', Sherpa shared.

According to Kulung, there are countless unsung heroes in our country who work behind the scenes in the field of mountaineering.

'Despite their invaluable contribution, our society has failed to make many such heroes known to the world. There are many Nepalis, world record climbers and their stories will be published into books and will also be brought to the market gradually,' he said, adding that the book 'Himalayan Maverick' will soon be available worldwide through Amazon.
