The government has formed a joint investigation committee to probe the seizure of 779 electric vehicles imported through the Korala border in Mustang on suspicion of revenue evasion.
The committee, formed under the direction of the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, includes representatives from the Ministry of Finance, Department of Customs, Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force (APF).
Prime Minister's Press and Research Expert Dipa Dahal said the government had initiated an immediate investigation as part of its commitment to good governance and revenue protection. She said the committee has already begun field-level inquiries at locations where the vehicles were impounded.
Dahal stated that the government remains committed to strengthening revenue administration and enforcing the rule of law.
APF Joint Spokesperson and Deputy Superintendent of Police Shailendra Thapa said the vehicles were seized for verification following special intelligence inputs indicating possible revenue irregularities. He clarified that although the vehicles had completed customs procedures, authorities carried out additional checks as part of a routine security and monitoring process.
Thapa also urged caution against the spread of rumours and misleading reports, saying investigations are ongoing and facts should be verified through authorized sources.
The APF had earlier seized 779 electric vehicles, most of them BYD models, from Korala, Jomsom, Kusma and other locations for further investigation into possible customs and revenue-related violations.
