Sunil Babu Pant appointed first ever cultural emissary for Inclusive Tourism in Nepal

KATHMANDU, JANUARY 19

Sunil Babu Pant, the pioneer of the LGBTIQA+ movement in Nepal and the first lawmaker from the LGBTIQA+ community in South Asia, was appointed the first-ever cultural emissary for Inclusive (Pink) Tourism in Nepal by Nepal Tourism Board at an event held today at its office in the capital.

'This title has been conferred on Pant for his continued dedication and passion for initiating inclusivity and diversity within the tourism industry in Nepal,' said NTB.

'Pant's role as Cultural Emissary holds significance in advocating for LGBTIQA+ tourism. By taking on this position, you have the opportunity to create a positive impact on both local and international levels, inspiring others to embrace the principle of equality and acceptance,' reads the certificate offered to him by Nepal Tourism Board.

According to the NTB, Pant's commitment to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for LGBTIQA+ travelers is commendable.

'As a cultural emissary, we believe you will raise more awareness about the LGBTIQA+ issues, encourage LGBTIQA+ friendly policies, and promote LGBTIQA+ friendly destinations and experiences,' NTB stated.

'Your expertise and influence will undoubtedly contribute to the growth of pink tourism and help create a more inclusive and diverse travel industry,' it added.

Likewise, Pant shared that he felt honored to be appointed the cultural emissary for Inclusive (Pink) Tourism in Nepal.

'I am grateful to the NTB for this opportunity,' he said. 'I will promote Pink Tourism along with justice and equality for the LGBTIQA+ communities in Nepal, in Asia, and around the world.'

Pant is also the executive director of Mayako Pahichan Nepal and the former executive director, CEO, and founder of Blue Diamond Society (BDS), the first LGBTIQA+ rights organization in Nepal.
