KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 15

Over 1,000 foreign tourists bound for Lukla in Solukhumbu have been stranded in Manthali for the past two days due to adverse weather conditions disrupting flights to Lukla Airport.

The total number of affected tourists is estimated to be around 1,300, with some having arrived by both air and road.

Some of the stranded tourists have begun traveling to Phaplu, the district headquarters of Solukhumbu, while others have booked helicopter flights to Surke.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) office in Manthali, tourists holding tickets for Summit, Tara, and Sita airlines remain stuck in Manthali.

Prajwal Guragain, spokesperson for Manthali Airport, noted that during the tourist season, the airport operates 55-60 flights daily.

Many tourists visit in autumn to trek towards the Sagarmatha (Everest) base camp.
