KATHMANDU, JANUARY 28
The U.S. Soybean Export Council (USSEC) hosted its signature Chickenomics event in Kathmandu, Nepal, emphasizing sustainability, poultry modernization, feed cost optimization, and animal nutrition.
The event highlighted the growing preference for U.S. Soy in South Asia's poultry industry, citing its superior quality, competitive pricing, and role in improving profitability, according to the press release issued by the USSEC. The event coincided with U.S. Soy's competitive pricing in the global market, making it an attractive choice for regional poultry producers, it added.
Recent milestones for U.S. Soy in South Asia include Pakistan reopening trade after a two-year pause, easing market access. In Nepal, Valley Group, a leading poultry producer, has adopted the 'Fed with Sustainable U.S. Soy' label, showcasing its commitment to sustainability. According to USDA data, U.S. soybean imports to Bangladesh have increased by 36.2% compared to the previous year, while India has recorded 111,500 metric tons of outstanding sales for U.S. soybean oil, reflecting growing demand, the release further states.
Kevin Roepke, USSEC's Regional Director for South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa, stated, '2025 has started strong for U.S. Soy. We are grateful for our customers across the region who recognize its potential in advancing food and nutrition security. This marks a turning point in strengthening our partnerships with the industry.'
At the event, U.S. Soybean farmers Dennis Fujan, Director of the American Soybean Association (ASA), and Kyle Durham, Director of the United Soybean Board (USB), shared insights on sustainable farming practices. U.S. Soy boasts the lowest carbon footprint compared to soy from other origins, reinforcing its sustainability credentials, the release said.
Reflecting on his visit to Nepal, Durham said, 'While I've had the privilege of hosting delegations from South Asia's poultry industry at my U.S. Soybean farm in Missouri, it is incredible to be here in the region and meet our customers firsthand. I'm inspired by the insights and the things I've learned from the people I've met here.'
'USSEC continues to partner with South Asia's poultry industry to unlock its profit potential,' the release added.
