JHAPA, JANUARY 21

The Mechi Customs Office reported a 55.70 percent rise in tea exports over the past six months of the current fiscal year 2081/82, with the export value reaching nearly Rs 3 billion during the period from Nepali months of Shrawan to Poush.

According to Information Officer Ganapati Kandel, a total of 11,232 metric tons of tea was exported through the Mechi Customs Office. In comparison, the same period last year recorded tea exports worth Rs 1.90 billion.

Chairman of the Tea Producers' Association, Aditya Parajuli, described the trend as positive, attributing the growth in exports to reduced tea production in India. He emphasized that further government facilitation could boost tea exports significantly, given the rising demand in the Indian market.

In addition to tea, the export of black cardamom also saw a 16 percent increase, generating Rs 4.55 billion compared to Rs 3.90 billion during the same period last year.

Similarly, plywood exports rose by 27.90 percent, while cement clinker exports also recorded significant growth.

Conversely, exports of iron, chhurpi, ginger, cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, and other items declined during the review period, the office noted.
