Officials have said that the remand of 41 people arrested for violent protests during the pro-monarchy movement has been extended for the second time by six days.
The 41 people who are in the custody of the District Police Complex, Kathmandu, were produced before the Kathmandu District Court on Wednesday for an extension of their remand.
'They have been held in custody for another six days for further investigation,' Kathmandu District Court Information Officer Deepk Shrestha said.
Rastriya Prajatantra Party Senior Vice President Rabindra Mishra, a legislator, and RPP General Secretary Dhawal Shumsher Rana have been detained and their remands extended. Eighteen additional people were arrested, and their remands were extended on Tuesday.
'Mishra and Rana are being investigated on charges of treason and organised crime, while others have been charged only with organised crime,' Shrestha added.
On Sunday, the remand of 41 people-30 for criminal mischief and organised crime and 11 for crimes against the state-was extended for the first time for five days.
Police arrested them on Friday. They were taken for a second extension today, after their five-day remand expired on Tuesday.
On March 28, royalist protesters vandalised homes, shops, a hospital, a political party office, vehicles, and a shopping mall and seized a weapon from police.
