Nepal's inflation drops to 2.77% in mid-May 2025, NRB reports

KATHMANDU, JUNE 10

Nepal's year-on-year consumer price inflation slowed to 2.77% in mid-May 2025, down from 4.40% a year earlier, according to Nepal Rastra Bank's (NRB) latest report.

Key Inflation Trends

  • Food & Beverages: 1.52% (down from 6.41% last year)
  • Non-Food & Services: 3.45% (up from 3.09%)
Rural vs. Urban:

  • Rural inflation: 3.21%
  • Urban inflation: 2.61%
Regionally, Koshi Province recorded the highest inflation at 4.29%, followed by Sudurpashchim (3.14%), while Lumbini had the lowest at 2.15%.

The Kathmandu Valley's inflation was 2.64%, matching the Terai region, while the Mountain region saw the highest rise at 4.01%.

Meanwhile, wholesale price inflation moderated to 3.95% from 5.68%, with consumption goods surging 10.89%, construction materials rising 2.67%, and capital goods increasing 2.73%.

The NRB's report covers ten months of data from the current fiscal year (2024/25).
