KATHMANDU, AUGUST 5

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) has issued a forecast warning of moderate to very heavy rainfall across multiple provinces today and tonight as the monsoon system continues to dominate weather patterns across Nepal.

Skies are expected to remain mostly cloudy nationwide today afternoon, with moderate rainfall likely at some places in Koshi and Madhesh Provinces, and at many locations in other provinces. Heavy to very heavy rain is possible at a few places in Lumbini and Sudurpaschim Provinces, and at isolated spots in Bagmati and Gandaki Provinces.

Meanwhile, the weather will remain mostly cloudy tonight, with moderate rain likely at many places in Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim Provinces, and at a few places elsewhere. Heavy to very heavy rain is expected at some locations in Lumbini and Sudurpaschim Provinces overnight.

According to DHM, monsoon winds are currently active across the country, with the monsoon trough line positioned north of its usual location, near Nepal's Terai region, intensifying rainfall activity.

Kathmandu Valley is likely to experience generally cloudy with rain/thundershowers today afternoon with max temperature of 27°C to 29°C and 60% chance of rain. Meanwhile, at night, the weather pattern will likely to be generally cloudy with rain/thundershowers and minimum temperature of 19°C to 21°C. The valley has a 40% chance of rain tonight, as per the DHM.

Authorities have urged residents, especially in landslide- and flood-prone areas, to take precautions amid the possibility of intense rainfall and thunderstorms over the next 24 hours.
