Meteorological Department warns of thunderstorms and lightning in many areas

KATHMANDU, AUGUST 4

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall across various parts of the country today and tonight as the monsoon system remains active.

The weather will remain generally cloudy throughout Nepal today afternoon, with moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning likely at many places across all provinces. Heavy rainfall is expected at one or two locations in Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini Provinces.

Meanwhile, skies will remain generally cloudy tonight, with moderate rain and thunderstorms likely at many places in Koshi, Madhes, Gandaki, and Lumbini Provinces, and at some places elsewhere in the country. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini Provinces during the night.

According to the department, monsoon winds are currently influencing weather patterns across the country. The monsoon trough line is positioned north of its normal location, close to Nepal's Terai region, intensifying rainfall activity.

According to the DHM, the Kathmandu Valley will experience generally cloudy with rain weather pattern with maximum temperature 27°C to 29°C, and 60% chance of rain. This weather pattern will continue to the night with minimum temperature 20°C to 22°C, with 40% chance of rain.

Authorities have urged residents, particularly in areas prone to landslides and flooding, to remain cautious due to the risk of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms over the next 24 hours.
