KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 24

A fresh landslide at Tuinkhola in Ichchakamana Rural Municipality-6 has once again shut the vital Muglin–Narayangadh road, stranding thousands of travelers heading home for the Dashain festival.

The slide struck around 4:55 p.m. Tuesday and continuous debris flow has delayed clearance. The same stretch had only reopened Monday after a previous landslide Friday.

Authorities have urged motorists to use alternative routes. One option is the road to Dedgaun via Khairenitar in Tanahun-a Gandaki Province 'pride project' aimed at linking Mustang to the Tarai.

The detour, suitable mainly for small and light vehicles, runs Damauli–Khairenitar–Bhimad–Manpur–Dedgaun–Bulingtar–Dhodeni–Gaindakot. Key distances include: Muglin to Khairenitar 70 km, Khairenitar–Bhimad 7 km (blacktop), Bhimad–Manpur 35 km (dirt), Manpur–Dedgaun 40 km (blacktop), and Dedgaun–Narayangadh 70 km.

Locals note that motorcyclists can also reach the road section by crossing a suspension bridge through Keshavtar, Sukhaura, Huslang, and Dharampani.

Road officials caution that full traffic resumption on the main highway may take considerable time.
